Since I create your custom pet painting from the images that you supply, the photos must be clear, sharp and accurate in color and detail. Capture the personality and character of your pet as best possible. Clear close-up shots of the face and head are essential to ensure appropriate representation in your pet's portrait. Do send as many images as you can, so I can evaluate the best choice. Differing photos are very helpful as they will show different aspects of the features, the coloring, the texture of the animal. More is better. I will work from the one photo that is best for the portrait. If you have a clear favorite, let me know which one it is so we can evaluate if it is suitable to use. If mailed, all your photos will be returned along with your finished painting. Please contact me via email for my studio address. And if you must send any treasured photos via the mail system, please make copies so if something happens during transit (Murphy’s Law), we all won’t be heartbroken. Try to provide ultra crisp photos that are 4” x 5” or larger. Do read my FAQ page for more tips on this.
Email is actually a better and faster way to get the photos to me. You may email the digital images (jpg) at high resolution. This would be the size it came from your digital camera or phone. Since the file size may be large via email, try not to send more than 1 at a time. Send multiple emails. Or zip them. Otherwise your software may automatically downsize the images in order to squeeze the group through the internet!

To start the process of ordering a custom oil painting from pet portrait artist Lisa LaTourette, simply CONTACT me and begin a dialogue. It's always good to talk about what you are wanting so we can explore possibilities.
The stretched canvas formats above work best for a singular close-up. My specialty is doing head portraits of dogs, cats, horses, birds or any of God's creatures. If you have more than one pet, consider one portrait for each animal. They make a beautiful statement when grouped together.
If you want more than one pet in your painting, contact me so we can discuss what size canvas would be best. Multiple subjects within the painting take more time to create and have a different price point.
If the size you were envisioning is NOT listed above, talk to me. I am happy and able to create whatever it is you’d like to see. Once I gain an understanding of the scope of your commission, I can give you an estimate of cost. Larger portraits are available.
I normally extend the painting over and into the 1.5" sides, which clients love. No need for framing! The heavy duty gallery wrapped canvas format (1.5" profile along sides) also allows us to showcase nicknames, a favorite saying or an expression of your choice about your pet along the profile edges. My suggestion is to keep it clean and simple. Nicknames are very popular and endearing. People often call their pet by all sorts of cute names (I know I do!). You can have those names scripted along the edges of the portrait, which can be quite unique, personal and sentimental. This thicker format also allows you to hang your artwork without the need for framing. The side profile also looks handsome and sophisticated painted simple black. Or if you want this to actually match your décor, I can paint a textile pattern from a pillow or fabric swatch that you provide. If this sounds intriguing to you, talk to me and let’s brainstorm what would be best.
I have had people request that I paint on flat canvas board vs. the stretched framed canvas as quoted above. I can do this, but please specify your preference from the beginning. The cost structure is the same as the traditional canvas.
As a reminder, all original artwork is commissioned for personal use only and may not be reproduced without consent or used for financial gain. Please remember I retain full reproduction copyright on all my creations.
SIZE & PRICE FOR GICLEES
What is a giclee print? It is a gallery quality color reproduction of an original painting on stretched canvas linen. Many people order giclees so they can keep the original portrait and gift a reproduction to a family member or friend. Just let me know if you’d like one or more. You can always order more giclees from me in the future. If you’d prefer your giclee to be paper, please specify this and contact me for an estimate.
8" x 8" $155
8" x 10" $180
12" x 12" $240
11" x 14" $270
12" x 16" $300
14" x 18" $360
16" x 20" $525
18" x 24" $695
24" x 24" $920
Giclees come with the same Swarovski crystal embellishment following my signature. This is the trademark of my animal portrait work.
SIZE & PRICE FOR NOTE CARD COLLECTIONS

HOW TO COMMISSION AN ANIMAL PORTRAIT
To begin your commissioned painting, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required with your photo images. The finish time depends upon the list in progress. I'd estimate between 2-4 months. If you want to commission the animal portrait as a special gift, please let me know about your timeframe so we can work within that special date. Christmas gifts should allow more time (4-5 months), so plan ahead to avoid any last minute anxiety and to ensure a timely delivery. If a deadline cannot be met, I can happily issue a gift certificate.
A gift certificate for a cat, dog, horse or animal portrait of any kind is one of the most unique and treasured presents that an animal-lover can receive. Given with love, created with love, so few gifts possess the power of stirring the heart the way a custom pet portrait can.
When your animal portrait is finished, I will email you a photo of it for approval. You will be given one round of adjustments, if needed. (Please realize that adjustments will require additional time to execute and time for the oils to dry properly before shipping.) When finalized, your approval is requested via email. The balance is also due at this time. Once payment is received, your oil portrait will be readied for mailing.
Receiving your commissioned oil painting is an exciting time! Arranging reliable shipping of your valuable artwork is essential. Professional packing/shipping charges are additional (there is no markup). You will be given the shipping office’s phone number so you can discuss your shipment and charges directly with the shipper. I recommend FedEx over UPS. (I only ask that you please do not select the U.S. Postal Service.)
